NYES Featured in Governor’s Green Energy Plan

Governor Cuomo cited the New York Energy Solution project as a key part of “New York’s Green Energy Transmission Superhighway” in his 2021 State of the State address on Wednesday, Jan. 13.

The Governor highlighted our project, represented as “Segment B,” on a map showing the four elements of the State’s major transmission upgrade effort to “break the congestion and open the grid," and noted we will break ground later this year.

“As New York builds substantial capacity to generate clean energy Upstate, the next challenge is to create a modern transmission system capable of delivering this electricity efficiently to high-demand areas Downstate,” the Governor further explained in a press release.  “Last year, New Yorkers utility bills reflected approximately $1 billion in unnecessary ‘congestion costs’ because of bottlenecks on our antiquated transmission grid.”

Following the address, New York Transco issued the following statement:

We applaud Governor Cuomo’s dedication to modernizing the electric transmission system to keep New York State growing in a sustainable way. New York Transco is proud to be advancing several transmission improvements in a responsible, community-focused and environmentally friendly manner that will provide a gateway to renewable resources for New York residents and businesses.  We are committed to bring forward innovation, partnerships and our system knowledge to best serve New Yorkers.

2021 will be a banner year as we expect to launch construction of the New York Energy Solution – an important transmission project in the Hudson Valley that will help New York meet its nation-leading environmental goals.

New York Transco is developing the New York Energy Solution and Rock Tavern to Sugarloaf transmission projects to relieve grid congestion, support the state’s electric grid and enable delivery of renewable energy from generation points to demand centers.
